Practical Self-Protection

Effective civilian combat training for children, teens, and adults. Beyond the physical skills, we focus on awareness, avoidance, and empowerment.

Embedded
Curriculum

We teach age appropriate self protection through out all of our regular classes. For more details, please see our classes.

We also dedicate at least 2 classes a year purely as refresher self protection sessions for all of our students which helps to keep everyone’s skills and knowledge up to date. We believe that it is just as important to practice the soft skills as well as the physical ones.

Holistic Safety

Our approach bridges the gap between feeling safe and being prepared. We cover everything from situational awareness to high-percentage physical techniques effective under stress.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Move up to secondary school classes

Our move up to secondary school classes are especially popular. Each summer we invite all of our current year 6 students to our cadet class for two specific self-protection sessions to prepare them for their move to secondary school.

Week 1: Foundations

We talk to them about awareness, the difference between social and predatory violence, verbal de-escalation, boundary setting and so much more!

Week 2: Scenarios

In the second week we set up our dojo as a school and work with them to navigate particular problem areas and scenarios that they may come across at secondary school (that have already been identified by our older students). We practise the soft skills learnt in the previous week and also incorporate some physical skills.

Friendships & Mentorship

During these classes, where possible we try to pair our year 6 students up them with an older student from the school that they will be moving up to. This often starts a friendship that will continue out of the dojo, meaning that they already have an older friend to look out for them on the school bus and show them around their new school etc!

The 4-Hour Curriculum

Our 4-hour intensive course is designed to bridge the gap between "feeling safe" and "being prepared", providing participants with the tools to navigate the world with awareness and physical security.

1

Soft Skills & Awareness

The first half of the course will be conducted as a mix of presentation, informal chat, and verbal partner exercises, allowing the participants to learn and practice self-protection soft skills that they can use within their daily lives.

2

Self Defence

The second half transitions to physical skills. These are not complex "martial arts moves", but rather building confidence in simple high-percentage actions designed to be effective under stress.
